Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., this popular tourist attraction is famous for its varied horticultural displays. Several of the plantings are not only unique but also rare. In order to support them, many different blends of Solite® planting soils were used. Solite® provides aeration, water balance, and prevents soil compaction.
National Mall

Often called “America’s Front Yard,” The National Mall runs from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial and is subject to tremendous amounts of foot traffic. In the past, the National Park Service spent millions of taxpayer dollars to replace the sod annually. They finally developed a unique solution that used Solite®. Twice a year, they core aerate the grass on the Mall and add Solite® into the aerated holes. This alleviates soil compaction, enhances aeration, and provides a welcome reservoir of moisture for the grass and soil.
